It’s time for this year’s exciting Blantyre Gala with an incredible extravaganza of entertainment planned for all the family!
A three day event is planned this year, the most ambitious yet by organisers Blantyre Community Committee. Starting this Friday 8th June, a whole weekend of celebration for the community is set to take place in Stonefield Public Park, Low Blantyre on the grass parks behind the Sports Centre.
300 people will descend upon the park on Friday evening in Fancy dress from 7pm – 11pm for a fabulous 80’s Party with 80’s hits played by a superstar DJ. A fun over 18’s evening of dancing and refreshments from the beer tent is planned under a massive marquee.
The Gala continues on Saturday 9th June this time with fun for all the family. Blantyre’s Annual Music Festival, “Live Near Livvies” takes place from midday until 10pm with amazing live bands and artists on stage. A secondary acoustic tent will provide quieter music of different genres from solo artists in a more intimate setting for seated visitors.
With free entry for all, children can look forward to facepainting which will be entirely free all day, as well as an excellent arts and crafts tent. Wristbands will be available for unlimited access for playing on a whole array of inflatables. With hot and cold food for sale and an exciting, large fairground also there the whole weekend, it makes for a fun day out! Visitors can also look forward to an outdoor Summer market with over 40 stalls selling a variety of items. On Saturday evening, visitors will be treated to an open air, licensed dance party until 10pm.
Gala Weekend spills over into a third day on Sunday 10th June rounding off with the Blantyre Gala Day. From midday until 5pm, with free entry, a superb fun day especially for children has been organised. The market will return, as will fairground rides. Eight lucky children will be crowned in the ‘royal’ party at 12.30.
Committee Secretary Paul Veverka added, “We’re very excited this year to have planned such a huge event. There’s truly something for everybody and with record funding, we’ve spent three times the amount we normally do, something guests are certainly going to notice to their benefit. We rely wholly on fundraising to pay for costs people may not immediately see, like insurance, stewards, fencing, lighting, flooring and first aid.”
Paul continued, “This year we’ve been fortunate to receive a generous grant from BIG Lottery, as well as appreciated local support from Family Shopper, Darcey Quigley & Co, Gavin Watson Printers and Hastie Cars including donations from individuals. This has enabled us to add rain shelters, dedicated toilets, better disabled facilities and access, a command station, freebies for children, cleaners and security. With good weather forecast, we’re hoping thousands of people attend the Gala Weekend and look forward to seeing you all”
