What a Fantastic Day!

We’ve had such a brilliant day and hope you all did too!

Our 6th Annual Festive event ended with a bang, literally with a few fireworks, a first for this venue. Thousands of people came down to the park today Sunday 25th November to take part in a great family fun day.

We had snow machines on stage, a great fair, heated marquee with cafe and 50 wonderful stalls! We had owls, Santa, Arts & Crafts and plenty of freebies for the kids.

So it’s thank you time. First a thanks to YOU! For coming along and ALL your support. Its sincerely appreciated and your feedback has been 100% positive.

Thank you to SLC Lighting, Waste and Sports centre staff for all their help and patience. Thanks to Crown Marquee for the inflatables and Marquee, and also to Jordan for the Stalls. These companies worked hard before and after the event, sometimes in darkness. 

Thanks to Taylors Fairground and Tina’s Catering van. Thanks to Hoots Owls and to Stuart Gosling, our fantastic Santa, helped by Dawn McCallum a a great elf! 

We have to also say thanks to Bespoke Event Services for their work on stage (thanks Barry Watt!) and to special guests Grant and Amber. Another special thank you goes to the Stage Hire company and of course Kyle and Kenzie for switching on the lights. Thanks also to Tom Brown who paid for all the free sweets given out to children. Also Dale Mckechnie at Vortex events, our sound guy!

A fantastic thank you to Lanarkshire Credit Union for being our main sponsor and also to Glen Travel, Carrigans, RBR Joinery, Ingrained with Love, Carmen’s Dog Grooming, Darcey Quigley and Co, JA Utilities, Nevada Nights Casino and Snips in High Blantyre for their valued sponsorship. Many individuals also contributed by making personal donations , especially with toys for the toy drive! People bought ribbons also support the event, so thank you very much.

Thanks to Geoff Krawczyk for his assistance today with setting up and tidying and with fireworks safety duties. Also to volunteers Rose Lee, James Green, Joanne Watt and Alan Britton and a special thanks to little Lewis Watt, a real trouper! Also thanks to the Strachans for helping set up and of course to Rev Steve Younger for his services. Thanks to John Brown Cater Hire for seats and tables.

Thanks to Gavin Watson for all our printing. It put a whole new level of being organised on the event! Thank you to Mo at Family shopper for assisting with arts and crafts.

50 Vendors who had stalls made the event extra special. We hope you all did very well today and thank you personally for all your continued support, especially those who donated a tombola prize too! We also had an array of incredible acts on stage. Singers and dancers of all ages, all absolutely amazing and hope you want to come along in Summer!

And finally…..a little thank you to US! To Blantyre Community Committee….the people who organised all this! To Arlene Green, Hazel Krawcyck, Barry Watt, Gillian Cunningham, Marianne Timmons, Louise Plummer, Paul Veverka, Stephen McDade, and Aimee & Chloe Glen. We’re only 10 people, all with commitments, family lives and jobs and volunteer in our spare time, helping each other when commitments get onerous. We remain motivated and look forward to the next event. 

It’s a tremendous amount of work and we ALWAYS need more volunteers to take some pressure off. SO, if you can give up an hour a month to help plan the next event, we’d LOVE to hear from you!!

We’re off for a well deserved break, a soak in the bath and to raise a glass or two. Very well done Blantyre! Our community is simply wonderful!
