What a Fantastic Day we had!

We had such a brilliant day yesterday at the festive event and hope you all did too!

Our Annual Festive event, the 8th we’ve managed ended with a bang, literally with a lovely fireworks display much to the delight of the crowds. Thousands of people came down to the public park on Sunday 24th November, and despite some early afternoon drizzle, it seems you all had a great family fun day out!

Kids had  good time at the fair and we had 58 wonderful stalls! Did you see the live owls and  Arts & Crafts? Santa’s Grotto was popular as always with kids receiving amazing, quality presents. We even had a few left to give out from the stage afterwards! LOADS of freebies too as children walked away with glow sticks, free facepainting, santa hats and endless bags of sweeties!

As for us? We have a brilliant time! Motivated, excited and hard working, we’re thrilled to put on this event each year. BUT, it’s not just down to us, there are many others who made this all possible.

Thank you to SLC Lighting, Ian Paterson at Waste and the Sports centre staff for all their help and patience. Thanks to Jordan and his team for the Stalls and to BIG Al for the hired stage. These companies worked hard before and after the event, sometimes in darkness, just for your enjoyment!

Thanks to Taylors Fairground and Tina’s Catering van, our dedicated vendors who do so much for our events. Thanks to Hoots Owls and to Stuart ‘Santa’ Gosling, who this year was helped out by volunteers Jacqui Williamson and her son, by the very kind Lesley and Gail Gillon, our own Lapland Elf!

We have to also say thanks to Bespoke Event Services for their work on stage (thanks Barry Watt for being compere!) Another special thank you goes to Macie Holler (6) and Rurie Hollers (2) for jointly switching on the lights with their parents. We know what a special day it was for them! Thanks also to Tom & Helen Brown who paid for all the free sweets given out to children.

A thanks to ASDA for their donation, for allowing us to backpack and sending over glowsticks and selection boxes. Mary Sutherland , you are a star!

Thanks to Bonnie and Nicola our dedicated, talented facepainters who worked so hard.

A special thank you to those people who donate to the Toy Drive. To Blantyre Telegraph, Glen Travel and BSA for helping make that such as success this year! A record breaking number of toys were donated, every one given out to delighted children. Thats over 210 families!! Thanks also to the people who bought tree ribbons supporting the event.

We had an extended team of volunteers on the day too. Thanks to Geoff Krawczyk for his assistance as always, especially this year with electrics, chairs and tables and fireworks! Also to Alan Britto, James Green and Sean Plummer! Also thanks to the Strachans for their wonderful goodie bags and of course to Rev Murdo McDondald for his services and conveying the true spirit of Christmas. Thanks to John Brown Cater Hire for seats and tables.

Many individuals also contributed by making personal donations this year. Combined with donations given to us from the fairground, takings from our cafe and Santa and general donation buckets yesterday collectively, will see us go into 2020 in a financially strong position for the next event! Brilliant!!

Thanks to Gavin Watson for all our printing for posters, flyers and programmes. We cannot thank them enough for all their support in 2019.

58 Vendors who had stalls made the event extra special. We hope you all did very well yesterday and thank you personally for all your continued support. We hope to see you all in summer again! We also had an array of incredible acts on stage. Singers and dancers of all ages, all absolutely amazing, an array of talent and hope you all want to come along in Summer too!

And finally…..a little thank you to US! To Blantyre Community Committee….the people who organised all this! This Festive Event was managed by Arlene Green, Hazel Krawcyck, Barry Watt, Marianne Timmons, Louise Plummer, Paul Veverka, Stephen McDade and little Lewis Watt (7), a real trouper! Work and family commitments have put some pressure on us this year, but even just 8 of us, we managed to get everything organised, set out and packed away. Through feedback, we’re delighted to have gained a few extra new committee members for next year and look forward to welcoming them all into our fun, group. We remain motivated and look forward to the next event.

It’s a tremendous amount of work and we ALWAYS need more volunteers to take some pressure off. SO, if you can give up an hour a month to help plan the next event, we’d LOVE to hear from you!!

We’re off for a well deserved break, with feet still sore today. Very well done Blantyre! Our community is simply wonderful!
