Blantyre Gala Day – Photos

The Photos

Rounding off a whole weekend of Gala Weekend fun was the actual Gala Day, on Sunday 10th June 2018. The weather was warm and it stayed dry much to the delight of some huge crowds, with many thousands of people attending.

Thank yous

Everbody was again very well behaved at the licensed event which started at midday with a limo arriving supplied by Alistair Blue and Nicole Love from The Party Hut with 8 royal gala children! The king and queen got to cut the ribbon and open the gala day.

The event was professionally run as always with Robert Munnick providing first aid cover, and cleaning services throughout the day from Michelle Maicie’s company. The cleaners worked SO hard and are to be given a special thanks here. The Committee were most pleased with their services and from the hard working stewards and security (thanks William Carmichael and colleagues)

A thank you goes to Susan Lindner for assisting with the Gala Parade at the Welfare and another thank you to Blair McKenna, our piper. There are SO many people to thank. Thank you also goes out to Dance Fierce, Dance Central and Devine Hair. All their assistance was greatly appreciated on the Gala Weekend.

When the portaloos needed emptying, we were rescued by Billy from Lux who came out at short notice on the Sunday morning.

Thank you to Precise Audio for the stage, to Kyles fairground and to Crown Marquee for all their hard work. Amazing efforts by the Hoolets staff made the beer tent the place to be!

It was amazing to see so many acts on stage, Dance Central again dominating the entertainment. Comedian, Rosco McLelland crowned the royal children on stage and the kids were given excellent goodie bags and free wristbands for the inflatables all day. All children attending the gala day could have their face painted by ‘Bonnie’s Facepainting For All Ages’ and by Nicola Paterson.

Thank you also to Laura Taylor for providing the Mr Tumble Costume (boy that was warm inside!)

Our market vendors all seemed to enjoy the day and feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with no complaints. It was wonderful to be complimented by several disabled guests on the suitability of the venue too.

Major sponsors have been thanked already in our previous post. Finally, thank you to YOU, for coming along and for making it such a success.

Blantyre Gala Weekend will return next Summer 2019.

Blantyre 80’s Party – The photos

Well, wow! What a fantastic weekend we’ve all had! Blantyre Gala weekend started on Friday 8th June 2018 with a brand new event, which we hope will become an annual feature! The Blantyre 80’s Party Night!

Thanks to an amazing grant awarded to us from BIG Lottery, we were able to host a spectacular evening in Stonefield Public Park, attended by 300 people.

Large marquees provided by Crown Marquees accommodated guests along with a brilliant beer tent, with thanks to The Hoolet’s.

Music was provided by Barry Watt, our excellent DJ from Bespoke Event Services.

300 party revellers descended upon the festival site and danced until late. The costumers were bright, the hair was large, the shoulders were padded! We were amazed to see so much effort put into the fancy dress costumes, which all added to the summer evening, party atmosphere!

Everybody was so well behaved and enjoyed themselves. Feedback has been incredible! We hope to supersize the 80’s night making it more accessible to many more people next year.

Thank you to everybody who came along and got the weekend off to a flying start, and not forgetting all our very own committee members for their enthusiasm, dedication, fun and planning in making all this possible.

Dedication

IMG_4784The big clear up

Commitment and dedication is when 8 volunteers stay behind AFTER a full weekend of events where many thousands of people had a great time, to ensure there is not one straw, not one lolly stick, not one crispbag or tumbler in the whole park!

In fact it looks SO immaculate, you wouldn’t have known the event took place! Hope everybody had a great time at the Gala and thank you all for the great atmosphere. Blantyre knows how to behave SO well at events like this! We’ll be posting many photos and ‘thank yous’ later this evening and tomorrow
